Reading 1 - 2 Aston Villa (Highlights)

Aston Villa kept up their challenge for fourth place in the Premier League with a win at relegation-placed Reading.


Tottenham 2 - 1 Chelsea (Highlights)

Tottenham came from a goal down to beat Chelsea at Wembley and win the Carling Cup after extra-time.

James McFadden salvaged a point for Birmingham with an injury-time penalty but the game was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Arsenal's Eduardo.


Newcastle 1 - Man United 5 (Highlights)

Two goals each from Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney helped Manchester United beat Newcastle and close the gap on leaders Arsenal to three points.


Liverpool 3 - Middlesbrough 2 (Highlights)

Torres plundered a treble as Liverpool moved back up to fourth in the Premier League with a 3-2 home success over Middlesbrough.

Lyon 1 - Man United 1 (Highlights)

Carlos Tevez struck a crucial late away goal for Manchester United after Karim Benzema looked to have given Lyon a Champions League first-leg advantage.


Arsenal 0 - AC Milan 0 (Highlights)

Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor missed a glorious late chance to win his side's goalless Champions League last-16 first-leg tie against AC Milan.


Celtic 2 - Barcelona 3 (Highlights)

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink put Celtic in front in 15 minutes with a powerful header only for Lionel Messi to clip home an equaliser three minutes later.

Barry Robson burst forward to loop a header over Victor Valdes to give battling Celtic an interval lead.

Barca levelled through Thierry Henry, before dominating the second half, and Messi tucked in a 79th minute winner.

Real Zaragoza 1 - Barcelona 2 (Highlights)

Barcelona closed the gap at the top of La Liga to five points as they beat Real Zaragoza.

Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho with a penalty ensured the points for Barca.



Chelsea 3 - Huddersfield 1 (Highlights)

Chelsea midfielder Lampard scored twice as the holders battled past a stubborn Huddersfield challenge 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Barnsley captain Brian Howard scored a stoppage-time winner as the Championship club knock Liverpool out.
